Knowledge to Work is happy to announce a new feature for job seekers. You can now locate employers near you who hire for job roles you’re interested in! This feature differs from our search engine for current job openings because the job roles you’ll find are not necessarily currently open. The job roles also include a list of the exact competencies (skills) you’ll need for these job roles, created by the employer. This means you’ll have a list of everything you need to learn to get the job you want that comes straight from the source! You can also find information about the employer that can help you decide if that employer may be a good fit for you. Learn more about this below!

Find Local Employers

To find employer profiles for businesses or organizations in your area, visit our employer search page. Enter in your zip code and the mile radius you would be willing to travel to for work. Then select the type of industry you’re interested in working in to run a search. If you’re not sure what industry is right for you, visit our Career Pathways Explorer to learn more about each of these industries, the types of career pathways available within those industries, browse information about these careers, and compare similar pathways to discover which is the right choice for you.

Once you’ve completed a search for employer profiles, you can click through various employer listings to view more information about each. If you are logged in to your free account you also have the options to add an employer to your Favorites library so you can easily navigate back to their employer profile later and to add private notes on an employer’s profile (these will only be viewable by you).

View Employer Profiles

An employer’s profile may include various information about the employer’s business or organization. The types of information you can find on an employer profile can include: specific information about each location of that employer (including address, maps, phone number, business hours, website link, social media links, and more), a description about the business or organization, an explanation of the benefits of working for that employer, a description of what the culture is like at that workplace, and job roles that employer hires for.

View Job Roles from Local Employers

Job roles available through an employer are viewable on the profile page of that employer. Clicking the “Details” button to the right of a job role’s title will take you to a page where you can view more information about that job role. Available information can include a description of the job role, the level of education or work experience that employer requires prospective job candidates for that position to have, a description of any on-the-job training offered by the employer for that position, the exact locations that position is available at, and a list of competencies (skills) created by the employer that job candidates for that position are expected to have. This list of competencies, combined with the other available information, provide you with a clear and detailed picture of what you will need to learn and accomplish in order to be a good candidate for that job role. These competencies are also linked to free and low-cost learning resources that will help you learn them.

Save Job Roles to Your Personalized Learning Plan

Soon, you will be able to add job roles from an employer to your personalized learning plan, just as you can add other types of educational goals to your learning plan currently. This will allow you to maintain a list of all the competencies you’ll need to learn to be a successful job candidate for that job role and keep track of your progress along the way! If you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for your free account to take advantage of all the features mentioned in this post and many more!
