KnowledgeToWork.com has revamped its Career Pathways Explorer, adding new navigation, many new in-demand career pathways with competency (skill) frameworks linked to learning resources, and much more!
We have vastly increased the career pathways available for exploration on Knowledge to Work. We have expanded our original focus on health information management, information technology, and administrative support technology to include several additional careers within information technology and administrative support, many pathways in other healthcare fields, and added various advanced manufacturing pathways as well. We have also added several pathways to help you build your workplace skills. These pathways include Career Readiness Certificates offered by Lord Fairfax Community College, as well as several soft skills and management competency frameworks to help you build or refresh your workplace skills. Visit the Career Pathways Explorer tool to view all of the additional pathways.
We have also built on the information previously provided on the career pathways pages. We now include lists of alternative job titles for each occupation that can help you search for jobs and provide information about technology tools you may need to be familiar with in each career. We have also aligned workplace skills competencies to each career pathway so you have a complete list of competencies employers are looking for in each occupation.
Each occupation, credential, and apprenticeship pathway available through the Career Pathways Explorer includes a competency framework that lists the skills, knowledge, and abilities an individual would need to have to be successful in that pathway. The competency frameworks come from professional organizations related to that career field, other credentialing institutions (such as colleges), or O*NET OnLine, a website developed for the U.S. Department of Labor by the National Center for O*NET Development. The competencies (skills) listed in each framework are linked to learning resources (thousands of which are free) that you can use to learn those competencies. Simply click on a competency to pull up a full list of the learning resources aligned to it. If the career pathway you are interested in doesn’t currently have a competency framework listed, that means we’re still working on aligning learning resources to those competencies. Simply bookmark the page for the career pathway you’re interested in and check back soon for updates!
